Kidnapped Marine moved to "place of safety"

Al Jazeera is reporting that US Marine Corporal Wassef Ali Hassoun has been
moved to a "place of safety" by terrorists who held him hostage. The Al Qaeda-connected group that held him threatened last week to behead the Marine if US forces did not withdraw from Iraq.
Details are forthcoming.
This smells. Bad.

Okay, I have so many questions. Is this guy really AWOL? Did he turn? Was he really kidnapped? Who is supporting his family? It takes money to go into seclusion? What kind of Marine was this guy before he went off on his own?

Coach K stays in collegiate waters

Mike Krzyzewski
ended talks with the LA Lakers to take over the head coach's slot recently vacated by Phil Jackson.
There was much speculation over the past few days over Coach K, who has led Duke University to 3 NCAA basketball championships, and whether he would take the Tinseltown lure of coaching the Lakers.
Krzyzewski scheduled a 5 p.m. news conference at Duke's Durham campus, with president Richard Brodhead and athletics director Joe Alleva.

Iraqi "militant group" denies murder of US Marine

On its own web site the Army of Ansar al-Sunna said that a claim announcing the beheading of Lebanese-born US Marine Corporal Wassef Ali Hassoun
was false.
According to the sources this morning, the fate of Cpl. Hassoun has not been determined.
"The media have published, quoting the Lebanese foreign ministry, that the Ansar al-Sunna Army has killed the American hostage, from Lebanese origin, who was kidnapped in Iraq," the statement said."In order to maintain our credibility in all issues we declare that this statement that was attributed to us has no basis of truth," the statement said.
"We have an official Web site for publication, any statement that is not issued through our site, doesn't represent us," it said.
I

Mike,
I hate to say this, but Cpl. Hassoun's fate is sealed. In my opinion, the reason this group is denying that he is dead is because they realize it would not go over well with the fence-sitting public that they had killed a fellow Muslim. Just speculation, I hope I'm wrong, but I will be surprised if he was found alive.

Maybe they're backtracking because they've been spooked by the Marines' reputation? In any case, it's not gonna play out well for them in the long run.

This story has gotten much murkier today. Has Hassoun agreed to not go back to the Marines? Has he defected? Is he being coerced to say anything?

Predators claim to behead US Marine

Al Qaeda terrorists
claim to have beheaded Lebanese-born US Marine Cpl. Wassef Ali Hassoun.
The claim was made on a website in a statement attributed to the Ansar al-Sunna Army.
"We would like to inform you that the Marine of Lebanese descent has been killed, and you will soon see the movie with your own eyes," said the statement, signed in the name of the group's leader, Abu Abdullah al-Hassan bin Mahmoud.
Hassoun was previously seen on a video released to Arabic television network Al Jazeera blindfolded, and kneeling in front of armed, masked captors. The kidnappers had threatened to decapitate Hassoun if the United States did not withdraw it's troops from Iraq.
US Intelligence sources are attempting to ascertain any truth to the claim.
Hopefully, the powers that be will take the chains off of the Marines. I know that they are chomping at the bit to go and wipe out every last one of these bastards.

pretty good cartoon. i don't know if there is any cable channel that shows BBC World or any major BBC channel but on Panorama the week before last there was an interview with President Clinton done by Jeremy Paxman (big interviewer over here, different style to but similar role to Larry King on CNN). Now like or loathe Clinton -and i happen to think he was a superb president- his style is brilliant. I know the guy is an oxford scholar with an IQ of 180 odd but i have never been so hooked listening to a politician -Blair is a slick, weaslly poodle of Bush who anyone on here could guess my views on- ,Personally i think he was an idiot over Lewinsky (especially as she was far worse looking than his wife) but when he turned on Paxman over the media giving Starr a journalistic blank cheque it was incredible. Have never seen a journalist so completely trumped. He could not answer the charge laid against his profession. The man is reputed to be easily the most intelligent of your recent presidents and listening to him i am not surprised. why can't he be the candidate for the Democrats? note that was a question of resignation i am aware of your two term rule.

The cartoon is EXCELENT!
Nick,
Had Paxman "done his homework" and researched his subject properly he would have had a comeback. Reporters here just wish that they could have been there to pursue the matter.
Clinton is a magician who can get people to believe him rather than their own "lying eyes". You may note that he has been disbarred in Arkansas after lying in court, a serious offense for a lawyer, particularly one who is President.
Tony Blair is noboy's poodle. He is eloquent and deals in facts. A shame he can't be elected President. I'd vote for him.

take him then please. I have a suggestion. We become a republic and you give us Bill Clinton (or hillary makes no difference to me) and we will give you tony blair for your next president.
i can't follow the Presidential election as much as i would like -curse the lack of satellite (cable to you guys I guess)television. From what i have seen though (and i must admit i want bush out) kerry has no charisma or presence at all. he just seems bland and dull and unsure exactly what he wants to do. Hillary Clinton aside is he seriously the democrats best candidate?

Transcript of my appearance on Hannity & Colmes this week

Fox News Channel released the
transcript of my appearance Tuesday night on
Hannity & Colmes. No pictures though...
KING: The Democratic Party is not doing that, Alan. The Democratic Party is basically taking the black vote for granted. They're sitting back and saying, "Look, blacks hate George Bush, and they hate him so much that they'll vote for anybody, even the local dog catcher." And John Kerry is the dogcatcher at the moment.
Now if I could get a video copy of the appearance (the picture of me here is from my April appearance on

Michael,
Sorry I missed your appearance.
I agree with you. When Democrats were vying for front runner status, they each spent a good deal of effort courting the "black vote". Since John Kerry has been the presumptious, er.. Presumed Democratic candidate you really have not seen that. He did make an attempt during his MTV interview, but to me that was simply another presumption by someone who really does not have any connection with ordinary citizens in general, let alone ordinary, black citizens.

Could Coach K be headed for LA?

ESPN is
reporting this morning that Duke University coach Mike Krzyzewski has been offered the LA Lakers' coaching spot recently vacated Phil Jackson.
57 year-old Krzyzewski will have the final word on the move, but it's hardly a done deal.
Coach K has written his own ticket at Duke, and is truly the big man on campus. Rumors have swirled around his moving to the NBA before, but those rumors have always been for naught.
Also mentioned with this rumor is that Krzyzewski would be the thing to keep Kobe Bryant with the Lakers. Currently, he's a free agent, and has most recently been talking with that "other" Los Angeles team, the Clippers.
And while Shaquille O'Neal has talked about leaving the Lakers, Coach K at the helm might give the big man reason to stick around as well.
The rumors continue to swirl, and until Krzyzewski makes a decision, they will continue to be so much dust in the wind.

Cos speaks out again and won't back down

Bill Cosby
spoke out defiantly this week, reiterating his statements of a month ago when he incensed many attendees at a NAACP gala in Washington.
At a PUSH/Rainbow Coalition event in Chicago, Cosby chided those who criticized him for airing black America's "dirty laundry."
"Let me tell you something, your dirty laundry gets out of school at 2:30 every day, it's cursing and calling each other [racial slur] as they're walking up and down the street," Cosby said during an appearance at the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition & Citizenship Education Fund's annual conference."They think they're hip," the entertainer said. "They can't read; they can't write. They're laughing and giggling, and they're going nowhere."
"For me there is a time ... when we have to turn the mirror around," he said. "Because for me it is almost analgesic to talk about what the white man is doing against us. And it keeps a person frozen in their seat, it keeps you frozen in your hole you're sitting in."
"You've got to stop beating up your women because you can't find a job, because you didn't want to get an education and now you're (earning) minimum wage," Cosby said. "You should have thought more of yourself when you were in high school, when you had an opportunity."
Many in the crowd at the event nodded their support for what Cosby was saying, and even Jesse Jackson spoke of supporting Cosby's statements during the event.
"Bill is saying let's fight the right fight, let's level the playing field," Jackson said. "Drunk people can't do that. Illiterate people can't do that."
As I mentioned on Fox News Channel this week, personal responsibility plays a huge part in black America getting ahead. I hope Cosby's statements get through to some of those who wouldn't dare listen to someone like me.

Your insight will be very helpful in the daily deluge of leftist propaganda. Great post by the way on the Cos. All of that stuff needs to be uttered in the public arena. The problem with so many of us is that we hate to hear people tell us the truth in public. So this tongue-lashing is long overdue

You have to love what Mr. Cosby has been saying lately. And, it is nice that Jesse Jackson understands the message; I just wish that he didn't feel the need to smother his concurrence under a subtext of 'we must overcome'. For, while Cos says to forget that you may have been getting a bad deal and to get on with bettering yourself; Jackson is saying that even though you are getting a bad deal you can fight through it to achieve. In essence, Cosby says, use the freedom of choice which you have, Jackson says, remember that you are getting a bad deal no matter how hard you try.
Cosby's approach, optimism and responsibility, will produce. Jackson's approach, victimization and hardship, will restrain.

I hope this works. A lot of people need someone they know to get a disease or a revelation before they can address the problem and celebrities are often that person. I hope Bill Cosby sticks to his guns and doesn't back down in the face of criticism.

Just imagine a world in which more prominent black personalities spoke up like Mr. Cosby.
Within a very short time period, we would see real change in the black communities that are identified with generational poverty and welfare issues in the US.
I think it is simple ignorance and a feeling of hopelessness that has pervaded many black families. And it is not an easy issue by any means.
I'm a white teacher in an all black southern high school, and I see some success stories - kids scoring Advanced on state testing and high ACT scores. But without exception, behind every single one of these success stories is an active and motivated parent visiting my classroom and being supportive and nice to teachers. And yes, it is actually often a single parent home too. Yet somehow, the single parent, mom or dad, hold the kids feet to the fire and do the right thing for their futures. This is the only way to break the cycle and embrace a better and different future for the black community.
On the other hand, over 70% of first time black marriages in our community end in divorce, at any time the local penal facility has over 80% black male population, over 25% of black males in this community will go through the local jail or juvenile detention facility during their lives, and sadly only 10 out of 75 seniors this year are going to college straight from our high school due to low scores and limited opportunities. This has got to change.
Many teachers are sick and tired of having a momma or daddy come to the school and snap the fingers, hands on the hips, twisting the neck around, enjoying the heck out of telling off another teacher in an effort to deflect blame for their own kids lack of school performance. I usually just walk out of those meetings nowdays. I don't have time for it. There are kids sitting in my classroom who need to learn while these hotheads and pitiful excuses for parents get some joy out of telling me how bad a person I am or horrible a teacher I must be because their kid scored low. Without fail, the kid is almost always a 'thug-wanna-be' and doesn't value the education anyway. Their minds are on pimpin, and ridin, and ho'ing, and bling-bling, etc...(you've heard it before) There is usually little we can do to help those kids until they come back to reality.
It's time to stop blaming the system and the teachers - hell, we are more than ready to teach and help these kids. The problem, which is never addressed, is the parents not preparing their kids for school and not enforcing good social behavior at home. If you really want to change things...find a way to make the parents accountable for their child's education. Make them responsible to have the child ready and fully prepared to learn prior to entering school.
I think Cosby hit the nail on the head. It hurts my soul to hear kids call each other n*****. I don't allow it in my classroom, never have, never will. My kids know how I feel about it, and respect me enough not to say it anyway.
I think it is degrading and insulting not only to the person it is directed at, but to people of other ethnicities (me) that have to hear it. Its embarrassing and elicits a feeling of pity for the obvious ignorance of the individual saying it. But don't just tell kids not to say it around other people of different races, practice it yourself...don't say it anywhere at any time. Consistency with the kids is one of the cornerstones to good parenting.
I think the kids, if left alone by the previous generation, would be ok for the most part. Too many of the previous generation is obsessed with making these kids carry a burden of the horrors of the past, instead of trying to help them improve their lives.
It's the never ending battle.
My students tell me they just want to move on and not be identified as the minority - just kids and Americans like other ethnic groups. They are bored and tired of being singled out and are shutting it out entirely.
But, it seems to me that this is never going to happen as long as the black community has words like the 'n' word that only alienate and seperate them from other groups.
Doesn't make sense to me to have a word that you can say to each other but get severly offended when it is uttered by other groups - the very same groups that you a ticked off at for being exclusive instead of inclusive. It's just crazy and beyond my understanding I guess. And yes, I've been told this before - I'm the one who doesn't understand. Give me a break.
What we need is for everyone to just do their best and be Americans first and stop worrying about trying to make the next generation fight the same ole battles. All it is accomplishing is institutionalizing generation poverty, limited opportunities, ignorance, and hurtful segregation.
So, at some point, like Mr. Cosby eluded, things have to change. We need to grow up and stop worrying about this not being politically correct and just confront the issues and problems head on. If you do this with love in your heart and wanting only the best for your fellow man - we can't help but succeed.
Here's to better days.

I heard Jesse Jackson speak one time. The press reported "Keep Hope Alive!" and "I AM! SOMEBODY!" The press didn't report him telling us kids, stay in school, work hard, don't do drugs, don't get involved in crime.
But you wouldn't know that unless you were there.
How many of you know that at the start of every school year, at least since the late 80s anyway, Jesse has told Black parents to go to school with their kids on the first day of school? He also said, don't make it the only time, join the PTA, volunteer, check homework, etc
But unless you were tuned into Black media, you missed it. Hmmmm...

On behalf of all of us, 'You're welcome.'
The Iraq-America Freedom Alliance
placed a full page ad in
USA Today this morning, as a thank you to the United States for the sacrifices we have made to bring freedom to the streets and homes and lives of Iraq.
The sacrifices your sons and daughters made for our liberation will never be forgotten. Without those brave young men and women, this day might never have come.
Of course you won't hear about it in the mainstream media. It doesn't fit into their collective agenda of dragging down George W. Bush and his Administration. It doesn't fit into their agenda of belittling the fighting men and women who are working day in and day out to ensure that freedom, now planted, can take solid root.
But on behalf of the rest of us -- those of us who understand and believe in what our forces are doing there, I deliver a humble "You're welcome."

US plans big show of force in Pacific

Operation Summer Pulse 04 is set commence within the next few weeks, with
as many as seven different aircraft carriers and their associated battle groups coming within striking distance of China and Taiwan.
According to the Department of Defense, the exercise is a test of a new Fleet Response Plan aimed at enhancing the Navy's combat power and readiness in a time of crisis. The plan calls for the despatching of six 'forward deployed' or 'ready to surge' carrier groups to a trouble spot within 30 days, and an additional two within 90 days.
Of course exact plans are shrouded in mystery, but according to the Navy's website, the Carl Vinson, Abraham Lincoln, John C Stennis, and Kitty Hawk are all in the Pacific presently, the Harry S Truman and the Enterprise are in the Atlantic, while the George Washington is in the Persian Gulf.
Sources indicate that seven of the battle groups will assemble in the Pacific as a part of this exercise. Never before have that many battle groups been assembled in one place.
ONE aircraft carrier is sent to a trouble spot as a reminder of US presence. This was done several times in the past, when tension was high in the Taiwan Strait.TWO carriers show serious concern, as was the case when China test-fired missiles over the strait in 1996.
THREE OR FOUR are sent in combat situations - as in the Gulf War in the early 1990s and the recent Iraqi war.
Sending SEVEN carriers in peace time to the same region is unprecedented. The US plan to do this after mid-July, in the Pacific Ocean near China, is a message to Beijing for its threat to use force to stop Taiwanese independence.
As you can imagine, China is pretty much as nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs.
The Chinese government stands behind it's long-standing proclemation that Taiwan would not be permitted to officially declare it's independance.

this is the sort of thing i personally and a lot of people i know like America doing. I don't believe the claim of China that Taiwan is merely a rebel province to be invaded at any time they like. No other country can do this sort of thing apart from America and it is good when it does.

Jesse Jackson to NASCAR: 'Negroes Can Drive Cars Fast'

Tuesday, Jesse Jackson
put his foot in his mouth once again -- this time by saying that NASCAR should have more black drivers than it does because "negroes can drive cars fast."
The setting was a sports luncheon in Chicago, a part of the PUSH/Rainbow Coalition's 33rd annual conference this week.
"One thing I know, negroes can drive cars fast," Jackson said to laughter. "I mean, we go through red lights, even [drive] at night with our lights off. We can drive cars fast," he asserted from the podium.
NASCAR's support of the conference this week flies in the face of prior indications that the racing circuit had ended fiscal support of Jackson's group in 2003 due to negative public pressure.
George Pyne, NASCAR's vice president of marketing, made clear the relationship between NASCAR and Jackson.
"I would like to thank Reverend Jackson and the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition for being positive catalysts for change. It is an honor to be here today."Pyne was unequivocal in his defense of NASCAR's decision to support Jackson.
"I would point out that there are a number of Fortune 500 companies that support Rainbow/PUSH and every other major sport America supports, or a number of major sports entities, support Rainbow PUSH," Pyne said.
"We certainly would think that we would want to be in step with the other sports and corporations in America, and it's consistent with how we approach the business," he added.
Jackson's next step? Challenging corporate team-sponsors to get them to finance minority drivers.
My question? How much of that financing will find it's way into Jesse's pocket to help continue is racket...
