Martian Junk In Her Trunk

According to scientists and io9, the first generation of women whose bodies adapt themselves to live on Mars, given the gravity and conditions on the Red Planet will be "tall, a little pear-shaped, with really thick legs. This shape compensates for the reduced gravity."

Hugo For Best Dramatic Presentation...Can't Decide!

Hugo nominations are going out, and for the first time in a long time, all five noms for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form are incredible, and makes it insanely difficult to decide....

* Doctor Who - Human Nature/Family of Blood, written by Paul Cornell and directed by Charles Palmer

* Doctor Who - Blink, written by Steven Moffat and directed by Hettie Macdonald

* Torchwood - Captain Jack Harkness, written by Catherine Tregenna and directed by Ashley Way

* Battlestar Galactica - Razor, written by Michael Taylor and directed by Félix Enríquez Alcalá and Wayne Rose

* Star Trek New Voyages - World Enough and Time written by Michael Reaves & Marc Scott Zicree and directed by Marc Scott Zicree

Eenie, meenie, miney, moe....

I'll have to watch 'em all again...

The winners, as with all the Hugos, will be announced at this year's WorldCon -- Denvention 3 -- in Denver in early August.

In semi-related info, I'll have more on some of the other nominees, including Escape Pod's annual reading of the noms in the short story category soon.

(What? You aren't listening to Steve Eley's Escape Pod on a weekly basis? Shame on you! Hie thee to iTunes or your favorite pod-grabbing device immediately!)

Who Watches The Watchmen?

Just one year removed from the long-awaited, long-delayed motion picture version of the 1980s graphic novel, the costumes of most of the title characters of "The Watchmen" are revealed (with Silk Spectre & Night Owl seen below). Most notably absent is Dr. Manhattan, who, at least according to today's speculation, will be CGI-based.
